summer 2011 - july

okay. here goes july…

the first few days were spent with our friends in town from california, bbqing and eating more than we ought to. they left in the morning of july 4, i left in the afternoon that same day to go to gothenburg, sweden for a week. i was there to present at a conference and was really struck by how swedish everyone looks. i know that’s kind of lame to say but really. tall, pale, blue eyes, so many stripes. and the seafood was amazing. and we took a little boat out to the islands right off the coast of gothenburg where we hung out and ate a little cafe in their outdoor herb garden. overall, i have to say, gothenburg looks like a way cuter version of ikea exploded all over the inside of classic, old buildings.

got back from sweden on july 11, my brother came in on july 12 and stayed for almost three weeks. he is working with my advisor and me on a few projects and she flew him out here to work in person. we definitely worked, but we definitely played as well. our work was fueled by various takeout orders, coke, and dog cuddles. our play was fueled by segways, benny, mr. beef, a day trip to wisconsin, and ping pong. it was so nice having him here for that long. benny was completely obsessed with him and we were all really sad to see him go back to california.

and then…just like that. july was over.
